Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate with at least a Grade D3 at Ordinary Level in five subject. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics or a language (English of Irish) or minimum Irish Foundation level B3 (no points awarded for foundation level Irish). A B2 in Foundation Level Mathematics will be accepted as meeting the minimum Mathematics requirements for entry to this course.

Students who have achieved a FETAC/QQI level 5 award are also eligible to apply. Applicants are required, however, to have successfully completed one of the following modules: Social Studies (G20031) 5N1370, Care Provision and Practice (D20003) 5N2705, Intellectual Disability Studies (D20169) 5N1652, Care of the Older Person (D20180) 5N2706, Care of People with Mental Illness (D20179) 5N3772.

Course Description
This is a two-year, full-time Higher Certificate course. The second year of the course is undertaken in Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT). The Higher Certificate is awarded by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC)/QQI, which is the awarding body of the Institutes of Technology.
