Entry Requirements

Grade D3 at Ordinary Level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate Examination. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish). Or any FETAC/QQI Level 5 Certificate (no specific module requirements).

Course Description

This is a two year full-time Higher Certificate Course. The second year of the course is undertaken in Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT). The Higher Certificate is awarded by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC)/QQI, which is the awarding body of the Institutes of Technology. In Year 2, students may select one of the following three options (depending on availability); accountancy, IT, marketing.

Year 2 (at AIT)

One elective module from the following options: Insurance and Banking, Financial Accounting, Applied Economics, Analysis of Financial Institutions, French, Spanish ab initio.

Graduates of this course have secured employment in areas such as accounting, banking, insurance, marketing, management, administration, retail services and computing.

Progression

Holders of this Higher Certificate are eligible to apply to join the Bachelor of Business (Level 7) at Athlone Institute of Technology. Alternatively they may avail of the exemptions granted by one of the professional bodies and apply for a full-time accountancy studies course at Athlone Institute of Technology.
